Old gold by KWZ is absolutely gorgeous

Excuse the bad kanji, I have only started to learn Japanese and I am trying to add it (plus hiragana pronunciation) in my journal entries. This is how I usually set up the beginning of a day. I just can’t get over how beautifully this ink shades. I used a piston brush pen (kinda like a fountain pen but instead of a nib it has a brush, just generic brand). This is MD lightweight paper (from the 128 page refills for the TN).

NSV! No longer pre diabetic! No longer high cholesterol!

First blood test since I started four months ago. I can’t believe it!! So happy for this medication. I have gone a bit up in dose today to help my cravings, which have been really bad for the last two weeks. I did 3.5 instead of 3 today. Crossed fingers!!

My husband put me in a temporary ink buying ban… so I mixed some colours at home 😅 my

The three warm ones are mixes of brown, magenta, red and orange. The first one has a bit or purple as well. These are all from a set of 12 cartridges that came for free in an amazon package. I have like six of those sets now so this is a nice use for them.

The last one is a mix of kwz old gold and jacques herbin vert de gris 1:1. It looks absolutely amazing in person.

This is tomoe river paper which I cut to the size of my traveler’s notebook.

My Jinhao tofu/centennial collection

I don’t know the names of the actual colours for most of them, sorry! Most are fude nibs (1mm) and four of them (multicolour, koi fish, teal, and green/lavender) are M nibs. I do like a thick nib and a wet flow. I have ordered some majohng flex nibs to replace some since I have tried that nib on one of my other pens and love it! These are so beautiful and I just love the feel of them. I need ink recommendations for most since I only have 5 of them inked (and only one with its perfect ink match so I am open to switching any of the other ones).

Silly reason why I got sad yesterday

I finally got my summer clothes out and turns out I can’t wear anything because it’s all too big! I have lost 16 kg in 15 weeks and I am really grateful but I wish my clothes shrank with me. I have so many things that I bought just last summer and they are so pretty 😭

NSV: I can actually hug my legs in yoga now!

I have missed yoga for like two or three months since I have been focusing on other exercises. I missed it though! I thought I was going to be super stiff but the smaller tummy means my range of flexibility is way higher since my stomach does not stop me anymore. I used to have to separate my knees to hug my legs in certain positions. Also my butt can still be sat in child’s pose and does not go up when I stretch forwards!

It’s crazy because I am still obese lol

First 100 days!

I didn’t realise but yesterday was day 100 for me :) I have lost 14.9kg (so around 2.35 stone). I am 39% of the way there!

I just wanted to do a post to share details of my experience in case it helps anyone.

I have been counting calories (aiming for 1400-1600) and keeping my protein intake at around 100gr per day. I am vegetarian so I mostly rely on protein products and vegan meats for this.

I did have a panic moment around a week ago because I gained 0.2kg in a week. I had a month where I had a holiday every weekend and finally it caught up to me when I came back home I guess! But I didn’t go up in dose, and the next week I lost 1.1kg so I think my body just needed to get back into my trusty routine.

I am very very excited for the future, I have not had blood tests yet but I am trying to reverse prediabetes and high cholesterol. I have been trying to keep to the lowest dose possible and I am doing this by counting clicks. I stayed on 2.5mg for six weeks and it was working very well for me, I think I probably should have kept it for longer but in a hormonal week I moved to 3mg. I have been on 3mg since then which has been 9 weeks.

My only negative side effect has been terrible constipation. But it is better than the IBS I had before. I am gluten intolerant so I am still avoiding it but otherwise it’s been so much better.

I am so thankful for this sub and people who share their experience here since I am one of those who has not told anyone except their household. I really hope to see more results here but having gone from a 18/20 to a 14/16 is already amazing 💕

Looking for advice

I decided to learn uncial after watching a video yesterday. I searched for the alphabet, practiced the letters yesterday. Today I wrote the first few words. This is terrible paper and a cheap cartridge so please don’t judge that. But I have been doing more reading and there seems to be a million Uncials. So now I am confused since I feel like this particular style is not looking very medieval. But it’s my first calligraphy practice so I don’t know what makes it look bad.

Can someone point me to an “authentic” sample of the original styles? Or tell me what this version I am practicing is called/where is it from? If it helps I an in England and would love to follow one that is local to here instead of continental.

I think my Es, Ss, and Rs are really bad and my Ds are a bit confusing. I would love some good intentioned advice given my 0 experience.

Lovely shop in Barcelona 😍

La central de la estilográfica! Bought five inks. I live in a small UK town so I don’t have anything like this nearby. I was so happy! Got some older Inkvent, some Lamy, KWZ, and a Sailor I bought in a shop a block away that has all Japanese Stationary

It’s so vibrant in person but keeping a lavender flower tone (the darker ones not the muted ones) and it shades so well even in a semi dry parker jotter on non specialty paper 😍

Just getting some things off my head and chest today :)

I weight myself every day, for me it's like a ritual, and I like seeing how certain days affect the weight (inflammation, dehydration, etc). I think it makes me better at being ok with weight fluctuations as well.

Anyway my digital scales have been so weird lately. They have new batteries, always on the same spot, and I "reset"* them every day to get the most accurate weight possible, since I have more than one and I know how untrustworthy they can be.

My weights for the last few days have been a bit crazy. I'm choosing to believe the scales since I'm using the same scales every time. But look:

  • 88.1
  • 87.3
  • 87.1
  • 87.1
  • 87.4
  • 86.8
  • 86.15

I seriously doubt I lost two kilograms in a week? I already have two scales though and I don't want to get another one. Maybe this is just the "whoosh" effect. I'm usually losing 1 kg to 1.2kg a week, I'm on week 9.

I'm just tired of not trusting scales. Today, at first it said 86.9. then no matter how many times I reset and weighed myself, even half an hour later, it kept saying 86.1. So where did it get the 86.9 from? Maybe I'm too obsessed with measuring instruments, lol. I'm an engineer and this is so puzzling to me in a professional way!!

But well. Who knows. Happy anyway to be the lowest weight in a decade.

Now for a weird NSV:

When I started two months ago, I was a size 18/20 depending on brand/cut. My trousers are falling off me, though. So I went to buy clothes, thinking I'd be a 16. Turns out, now I'm 14/16!! The 14 is a bit too unflattering (it fits well but it highlights my tummy in a weird way I am not used to) and the 16 is a bit too loose (I can already pull it a few cm away from my waist so I don't think I should spend money on it because it will fall off in a few weeks). So the NSV is that I couldn't buy any clothes 😂 I've ordered some online to try several brands at home to see if I can find trousers that are comfortably and flatteringly tight. Fingers crossed!!

* Resetting digital scales: Step on it so it turns on, then step off so it will turn off again. The "always on" ones where you can just step in to be weighed immediately sometimes just "estimate" or give you the last result again. Also after you weight yourself, you can hold something heavy and weight yourself with that. Then weight yourself like normal again. If first and last weight are the same, it's as accurate as it can get. If they're not, you can repeat the process.

Jacques Herbin:

  • Vert de Gris
  • Vert Empire
  • Bouquet d’Antan
  • Bleu Calanque

Diamines:

  • Amaranth
  • Writer’s Blood
  • Damson
  • Earl Grey

Jinhao:

  • Black

Custom Mixes:

  • Karkos Red + Bleu Calanque + JH’s Cafe des isles + water I think?
  • Jinhao’s green bamboo + JH’s Cafe des isles

I love making paper and using it even if it’s not good for FPs. Writing on it is so so soft! Also I glue it to pages on my journal when I want to keep little notes, and use it to write notes to my husband as well, or draw on it with ink.
