Interviews

What are some things to include in your interview binders? I have my resume, letters of recommendation, lesson plans, teaching materials, and thank you notes from previous students. I’m wondering if I’m missing anything else.

What if I don’t find a job?

I’m hoping to start my first year teaching in the fall but what happens if I don’t get a job? I am looking for either ms/hs eventually and I did apply to elementary jobs too so I’m not being picky.

I currently work at a daycare and am mostly with toddlers and infants and thought about possibly staying here for the year if I don’t get something but didn’t know if that would look bad for the future jobs.

I was a sub from January to May but I don’t think I can go back because it unfortunately barely pays enough to cover my bills and doesn’t include insurance unlike the daycare. I do understand that there is still time to find a job but I’ve been on a few interviews and haven’t had much luck so I wanted to start thinking about the possibility of not getting something. Any advice is appreciated.

Picking a Job

I started long term subbing for music for a few months at the school I student taught at and now that position is open. The position is co teaching general music and 6-8. I recently got a call for an interview at a smaller rural school for 5-12 band and am having a hard time picking which job I should take (assuming I’m offered both). At my current school I obviously am more familiar with the program, I have formed great rapport with the students, and it pays 5k more but on the other hand I don’t love the general music classes. At the other school I would be the only director and I really like the idea of a smaller program and being able to see students throughout all those years. I’m wondering if it’s better to stay somewhere I’m comfortable or go somewhere new that I might like better.
