You’re someone I once trusted
To hold my heart.
A long time ago.
Youthful days of laughter
Earnest talks of dreams shared
Hope seeking a worthy companion.
Eyes that danced
Lips that caressed
Hands that both soothed and aroused,
A tender place for my heart
To rest, however briefly
In the glimmering of love.
A chance reconnection
In the here and now,
Wisdom chooses warm recollection,
Respecting the distance of time.
Friendship offered, barriers maintained,
For you rejected my tender heart
