The True Cricket’s Song

June blooms the same old cravings

of spring and summer fire,

awakening the cricket’s song of alien desires.

I listen with reverent pertinacity

and walk with careful step

into the midnight mystery

where all the secrets are kept.

This song of night rises and conquers my soul.

I am the earth and the tree.

Walk with me, walk with me.

The cricket’s song plays to move the souls of unknown lovers.

A thousand sacred bonds, and a thousand new worlds discovered.

The insects are happy tonight

in their jungle of grass blade and moonglow,

playing out in the luxurious midnight—

ancient tribal heartbeat of shadow.

What magic this song does,

I do not know, I do not know.

A Winter Walk

A Winter Walk

~

A pond, frozen over, resting vibrant summer waiting to unleash.

A tree, whose barren branches dance across the sky like lightning.

Ground white, untouched, unspoiled spotless climbs turn hills into miniature mountain peaks.

Wind chill making quiet the sky and quiet the wood and still the harsh serenity.

I am with the world today, the world awaits us all, with no judgments and little concerns.

Widow of the Lonesome Storm

Lonesome beauty, ghost of yesterday’s fog,

widow of vanished daylight—where do you go?

Titaness striding from heaven to earth,

your footfalls bringing life

to the ground on which you tread.

Wandering dark creation draped from ashen skies—

I long to know you,

to walk in your shadow.

In spring, comprised of fresh emotion in your drops;

in summer, you let down your hair of lightning,

caught in the tempest of your wise sorrow;

in winter, your misty robes shine white-gray.

Walking across the landscape,

miles away, I watch you move;

or when you travel over where I reside,

I step out to feel your soul touch my skin.

And for a moment you connect me to the air—

fleeting experience of oneness.

Following the pace of the wind,

you vanish into the east,

but I will see you again.

My Human Darkness

Time and time again I fall into my human darkness. Ignoring the seemingly painful light of day

and the humming melodies of night.

I take the croaking of frogs personally,

and the clouds seem to have some sort of prophetic significance.

The frogs think not of me, of course,

the clouds roll by concerned with their own business;

and I am simply self consumed.

Heavens above help when the nature of life

seems to me more important

than nature itself.

Yesterday's Ashes, Today's Fires

As the world lights new fires on the ashes of yesterday’s flames,

and the wind blows a scorching breath to suffocate the entirety of the US,

(a result of the suffering we ourselves forced on the untameable air),

The masses quiver with fear, anger, hatred

the old savage gods of our lower instincts.

There are no positives to see, and no negatives, from up on the mountain high -

here the stream still whispers,

and the tree’s roots cling to the soil,

and the rock stands tall.

Humanity wages war with itself,

inflames itself, hates itself;

while objecting to the consequences.

Where the pine stands, there is neither love nor hatred,

only a profound interconnection.

All things will pay the price of our actions, eventually,

because of this contaminating unconsciousness that leads to our soul’s decay.

But where there is nature, there is reason;

and this gives my mind vent from the heat.
