EWBAITE might be Weezer’s most Ozma-coded album
I’ve been a fan of both Weezer and Ozma for years, but while I’ve listened to Double Donkey Disc all the way through, I’d never really given EWBAITE that same full-album treatment until now. After finally doing so, I can’t stop hearing all these Ozma-like touches throughout the album, especially in the instrumental breaks. I know it’s already common knowledge that Ozma are credited on “Eulogy for a Rock Band,” but it makes me wonder whether their influence goes beyond that one track, or if it’s more a case of Rivers channeling that kind of sound himself. Then again, Ozma have basically been Weezer-coded since the beginning, so maybe it all comes full circle.
“The British Are Coming,” “Cleopatra,” “Foolish Father,” and especially the Futurescope Trilogy all have moments that really remind me of Ozma.
Am I the only one hearing this? What do you think?
