Should I be Concerned?

Its been very rainy lately with storms and I noticed that my TB gelding’s front hoof is a bit soft at the heel and frog and it has these grooves/cracks. No foul smell, and he is also not tender on it either. I figure right now this is a watch and see if anything gets worse and not panicking yet. Any ideas? He’s a few weeks out from his last shoeing for what its worth.

OTTB Bad Rep

I see all over this thread about why ottbs are so risky, sensitive, and how they are a nightmare to own and manage. But you never hear anything about the good. I’m a new OTTB owner as of 2 months and he’s my 2nd horse after owning a QH for years. Tbh, yeah I got to pay attention to saddle fit, his hooves, and he’s a harder keeper, but he’s been blossoming into a great horse, sweetest and most willing boy. ♥️The forwardness and having a bit more sensitivity is refreshing.

Would love to hear others success stories for their ottbs having 2nd lives and careers, they get so much hate nowadays.

Wildfire Smoke

I live in Michigan, and just bought my boy this summer, I haven’t been a horse owner in a long time, I forget how much you worry about the weather etc, this summer has been brutal! And now we have insane air quality. Question is, is there any we can do for our horses that are outside breathing in all this smoke? It’s got to be so hard on them and I worry about all the pons outside rn :(
