Will landlord charge for grease stains?
A friend recently stayed at my apartment in NYC and I’ve found these grease / oil stains on the floor - likely from a food packaging left on the floor. It was next to a garbage can. They’re not entirety sure as it was an accident.
I think it will be difficult to remove them as they seem set and aren’t fading much either cleaning.
Would my landlord charge me for this or is it reasonable wear and tear? How much could it cost? Worried they may charge an unreasonable amount.
Any advice appreciated as stressing out at the cost when I don’t have the cash. Thanks a lot!
Edit: thanks everyone for your views. I will put baking soda on it and hope that helps, even if marginal. Seems like this was truly negligent and could be very expensive to treat. For new comments, please only do so if offering helpful advice or different views (e.g., the whole floor won’t need replacing if the landlord pushes but just the relevant panels, the cause of the stains seems like XYZ). Also, this is a rental building so I assume the floors are engineered wood but may be wrong.
