Grand Piano Action Feels Heavy

I have a 7'6" grand piano that feels a little heavy to play. The keys aren't sticking or binding, they just require more force to press than other grands of the same model and brand.

With the grand, very light playing sometimes doesn't produce a note, whereas the other same model grand I tested responds much more easily to gentle touch.

Could this be high downweight, excessive action friction, or regulation? What should I check or measure first, and how can I safely make the action lighter and more responsive?

Finally bought my dream grand !

After years of saving, searching, and waiting, I finally managed to get my dream instrument: a Yamaha C7.
It took a long time to make this happen, including having it shipped all the way from Japan to Morocco, but seeing it finally arrive and having the first chance to play it made it completely worth it.

Paid: Looking for a piano technician to supervise Yamaha C7 assembly via video call

Hi everyone,

I'm receiving a Yamaha C7 that is being shipped to me, and I'm looking for an experienced piano technician who would be willing to supervise the unloading and assembly over a live video call.

Unfortunately, there are no professional piano movers or qualified piano technicians where I live, so I don't have anyone locally who knows how to safely get the piano off the pallet or identify which leg goes where. I'll have several people here to do the lifting, I just need someone experienced to guide us through the process and monitor everything.

The call should only take about 20–30 minutes, and of course I'd be happy to pay for your time.

If you're interested, please send me a DM with your experience and your rate.

Thank you!

No RPTs in My Country—Is Piano Technician Academy My Best Option?

Hello everyone!

I've been a concert pianist in Morocco for many years, and I've always wanted to learn how to tune my own piano. Recently, though, that interest has grown significantly as I've started to appreciate just how much a skilled technician can influence an instrument's tone, character, and overall musical potential.

One challenge is that here in Morocco there are only two piano tuners, and as far as I'm aware neither is a Registered Piano Technician (RPT), so finding local mentorship isn't really an option (And from what other pianists here have told me, they're generally not equipped to handle anything beyond routine tuning)

I've been researching different training programs and came across Piano Technician Academy. I know it's been discussed here before, but I'd love your thoughts given my specific situation. If I don't have access to an experienced RPT locally, would PTA be the best path to build a solid foundation? Or are there other online programs in a similar price range that offer stronger live mentorship or one-on-one guidance?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience. Thank you!

sE7 Matched Pair for Recording Classical Piano on a Yamaha C7?

Hello! I have a Yamaha C7 and want to record classical piano for my own enjoyment, not for professional releases. I know my budget is low, but I can spend a maximum of $250 for the pair.

I'm considering the sE Electronics sE7 matched pair. Has anyone used them on a grand piano for classical music? Are they good enough, or would you recommend something better within this budget?

Experienced Techs: What Do You Think of This Refurbished C7?

Hello everyone,

Photos and videos: https://imgur.com/a/EQyoWAL

I would be very grateful for your opinion on this Yamaha C7 that I'm considering purchasing.

It is a 1988 Yamaha C7, refurbished in Japan, and being sold by a Yamaha-authorized dealer in Italy. The asking price is $17,000.

Based on the photos and videos, would you personally feel comfortable buying this piano? If not, are there any concerns or red flags that stand out to you?

I understand that an accurate assessment is difficult without seeing the piano in person, but I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or observations you may have.

Thank you very much for your time and expertise.
