There are hundreds of notes apps. I built one that attaches to and follows your work.

I built a Windows notes app where the notes actually follow the files you’re working on.

It’s called ClingNote.

Attach a note to basically any Windows file, and whenever you come back to that file, the right notes come back with it. Switch to another file and its notes appear instead.

The idea came from getting tired of having notes about something sitting somewhere completely separate from the thing itself.

Beyond that it’s a full notes app: rich text, Markdown, PDFs, search, etc. but the file/context following is really the core of it.

I’ve been building and refining it for a while and finally have it on the Microsoft Store & direct download on my site.

There’s a free 2-week Pro trial, no credit card required, and a free version after that.

Still very early, so I’m especially interested in feedback from other builders. If anyone here gives it a real try and sends me useful feedback, I’m also happy to hand out some lifetime Pro codes.

Would love to hear what you think, especially whether the “notes that follow your files” idea clicks immediately or needs a better explanation.

Windows has 100 note apps. I wanted one that switched when my files switched.

Separate notes for separate projects just makes sense to me.

What never made sense was having to remember where I put the note.

So I built ClingNote.

You can attach a note to a file or app, and when you switch what you’re working on, ClingNote switches to the matching note automatically.

Spreadsheet → budget notes.
Power BI report → project notes.
PDF → review notes.

You can still use normal standalone notes too, with rich text, markdown, tables, images, code blocks, deep search, etc.

Next up is Tasks (checklists) with the same idea use them normally, or attach them to a file so the checklist follows the work too, integrated perfectly with your notes.

It’s on the Microsoft Store now.

Does anyone else actually want notes organized around the thing you’re working on, instead of folders/notebooks?
