Blood Sugar Strangely High

Hey all! I feel like my blood sugar has been high the last few days and I don’t really understand. I have the dawn phenomenon issue, so when I wake up I’m usually between 140-160, but then as the morning progresses I typically stay around 100-130. I had my A1C done a couple of weeks ago, it was 6.6. The previous time I had it done it was 6.8 so I was feeling encouraged that I was making progress.
My typical work day routine is that I eat breakfast, drive the hour to work (ugh), use my walking pad at 3.0-3.2 for about 20 minutes. Then I eat lunch, do another 20 minutes, and then in the afternoon I get another walk in, aiming for 10k steps. For the last few days it seems like every time I test my sugar it’s really high. Yesterday I ate lunch (homemade chicken and wild rice/farrow soup (I put about 1.5 cups for the whole batch so there wasn’t a ton of rice and farrow)) and even after walking my blood sugar was 200. I thought maybe my strips were bad so I bought some more yesterday and tested this morning. I did 4 strips, they ranged from 160-200. Two things I’m wondering

  1. It was my 40th birthday this past weekend, so I didn’t really pay much attention to what I was eating. Friday I had a bagel and Indian food (though I only used about 1/2 cup of the rice). I had pizza and cake for lunch and a haddock sandwich and fries for dinner on Saturday. Then Sunday I had more cake. I’m wondering if it’s taking my body a minute to bounce back from the carb marathon?
  2. I’ve had an ear infection since Monday. I know that when you’re sick sometimes your blood sugar can increase but I feel better today and it’s still high.

Anyone have any ideas of what is happening? Should I be concerned?
