Are people flakier than they used to be?
I hate to be a "we used to live in a society" type of guy but it just seems like near everyone is flaky now wtf

I was a software developer for about 8 years. It was a job I could do alright but had basically no interest in. Being horribly depressed, I decided to quit my job as a software developer to get a second bachelors in mathematics(probably not the wisest thing, but what's done is done). Math is something I have more interest in, but I'm still not sure what I want to do with my life. I like statistics and probability and I find the market fascinating so I was thinking of becoming a quantitative financial analyst, but from what I've seen it seems highly competitve and unlikely for someone in their 30s. Other paths I think may be good are actuary or data scientist. I like programming fine but I think I want to get as far from software development as possible (though maybe a highly specialized field like machine learning could work, idk). If I knew what the day-to-day the various fields I mentioned maybe I could choose a path. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
