Retired Guy Getting Back Into Shape

I'm in my early sixties, been at a desk for almost two decades, working to get myself back down to a comfortable weight. I stay at home alone mostly, (wife still working) so I lift weights in the basement, calisthenics and stretching, but my preferred method is hiking with a 30 pound bushcrafting rucksack on. I have been walking the trails at Turtle River State Park and am wondering if there are any groups that get together for hikes? I have kind of kept my nose to the grindstone most of my life providing for my family so haven't made a lot of connections other than a couple of close friends and work acquaintances and would love to meet some people that may have some of the same interests as I have.

Context: I'm just over 60 and not total ugly, but certainly no Brad Pitt, but the other day in a home improvement store a lady locked on and smiled, and although I smiled back my mind went to immediately that I had something on my face, or worse, hanging out of my nose and I was incredibly self contentious until I could check in the mirror.
