What should an offline-first POS actually support when the internet goes down?

Hi everyone,

I’m building MODAPOS, an offline-first POS for very small cafes, restaurants, and retail shops.

By “offline-first,” I mean that when the internet goes down, the POS should continue running in offline mode. When the connection comes back, the system should detect it and sync the sales data with the cloud/server automatically.

Ideally, the store owner or staff should not need to do anything manually.

After reading several discussions here, I noticed that many small businesses care about offline sales, sales tax, reports, and simple daily operation.

For a very small store, what should a POS actually support when the internet is disconnected?

  • Creating orders and recording sales offline
  • Handling sales tax offline
  • Printing receipts offline
  • Working with a separate credit card terminal
  • Syncing automatically when the internet comes back

Personally, I think automatic sync after the connection comes back is one of the most important parts.

I’m not posting a link here because I’m mainly looking for practical feedback from real POS users and store owners.

For small stores, which offline features would be must-have, and which would be nice-to-have?

Thank you.
