Ciao a tutti!

Grazie!

How I improved the walls in Splat without LIDAR and without new images.

In my latest tests with Gaussian Splatting, I’ve significantly improved the quality of walls and surfaces with little texture.

I used to use this pipeline:

RealityScan → camera poses / COLMAP

Brush → Gaussian Splat training

The result was good, but I often saw noise and unstable geometry on the walls.

Now I’m using:

RealityScan → camera poses / COLMAP

Spirula Studio → depth map + normal map

Spirula Studio → Gaussian Splat training

You can see the difference on the walls in the photos.

I’m continuing to test this workflow, especially on indoor scenes.

Scanning a very large house with drone + 2 phones + camera, any advice?

I'm about to scan a pretty large house (both interior and exterior) using:

  • 1 drone
  • 2 smartphones
  • 1 camera

I know that's a lot of different devices, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience combining ground-level and aerial captures for a single Gaussian Splatting reconstruction and give me any advice.

Has anyone tried VGGT-Omega to generate COLMAP and got better results?

I've been testing it on the same dataset, comparing two splats:

- One where the COLMAP was generated with VGGT Omega (512 resolution, max 1000 points, 18% accuracy)

- One generated with RealityCapture

The difference is noticeable. Has anyone else experimented with VGGT Omega for this and managed to get better results? What settings worked for you?

Why does my Gaussian Splatting look terrible with LiDAR data?

I’m trying to use Gaussian Splatting with LiDAR-generated data, but the results are honestly pretty bad compared to the same dataset but with computer generated COLMAP data.

I’m using Lumina 3D Light to generate the dataset data on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the exact same dataset without the COLMAP data gives a much better and actually usable result, as you can see in the video.

Am I doing something wrong with Lumina 3D Light? Has anyone else experienced this?

PS: the COLMAP data is generated in Postshot, not in RealityCapture.
