Beginner to kayaking - what gear to invest in?
I've been interested in kayaking for years, as its something many of my teammates in the sport I play do on the side.
I've gotten interesting recommendations on gear, but some of them are more committed and have invested $$$$, while I am hoping to stay in the $$$ range to get started.
My issue is, when I purchased my vehicle I did not spring for a roof rack. My mistake. So I am looking at foldable/travel friendly Kayak options, also since my options to kayak will often be on trips smashed in alongside sports gear.
Ive been browsing brands like Oru and Tucktech, and havent even looked at paddles yet. What else do I need to know? Im anxious, my friends are busy people so I feel bad nagging them with questions. Please help me with anything a beginner needs to know, and you'll have my thumbs up and eternal gratitude.
Edited to add: I am in WV, I will be taking this in lakes and rivers. I'd like some versatility with it in rougher waters in case those opportunities arise as I travel cross country for my sport.
