Potential IT band bursitis or tear

I am an avid runner and cyclist. My cycling mileage is about 100-120 mpw and I run about 30-40 mpw.

In November of last year I was dealing with some lateral knee pain that was limiting my ability to run or bike and had an MRI done. No tears observed, but did have IT band thickening and a small amount of fluid but it wasn’t noticeable by looking at the knee.
I did PT for a couple months and have continue to do some of the strength training exercises as well as ensuring I roll out my IT band with a marathon stick as well as my glutes and legs before and after I exercise.
Eventually, the pain went away completely.

Starting in about May I noticed swelling on the lateral part of my knee just over my it band. It doesn’t hurt to the touch, feels firm when pressed but not rock hard. It started out the size of a quarter but now get to be about golf ball to egg sized especially after long session on the bike. It does not limit my range of motion or keep me from doing any type of activity. It does feel like there is some fluid in the area and I sometimes get a bit of a catching sensation when I’m laying down and then try to move my leg without my foot being anchored down.

I’m going to make an appointment with my ortho again, but was curious if anyone has seen something like this or dealt with it.
