I built a custom ski design webapp for you DIY ski builders out there. Would love some feedback.
I'm a ski builder in Salt Lake City. For years I used a program called Snocad to help design my skis, but this software hasn't been updated for years and has some drawbacks. I created this webapp (https://designer.blackchapelstudios.com/) to allow ski designers the ability to quickly design ski shape and dial in flex characteristics.
The page allows you to drag simple Bezier curve handles to change the shape of the tip and tail (which can be symmetric or asymmetric by adjusting the sliders). There are presets for common ski types with average values, but all are then fully adjustable. You can also adjust 9 different areas on the core thickness to dial in specific flex characteristics. Calculations are made and displayed on the left side, indicating the stiffness of the ski using industry accepted metrics. You can then export the ski outline (including inset outlines to compensate for the edges and sidewalls, useful in creating templates or CNC toolpaths for cutting your base and cores), side profile (to be extruded in 3D software to profile your core on a CNC), as well as the rocker profile (to create your mold for the skis shape, used in a press or vacuum setup). I've tried to add all the functionality I wanted in a ski designer, but I'd love to hear your feedback.
The app is free to use. I might at some point require login and/or a small fee to use. If you do check it out, please hit the "Send Feedback" to let me know your level of interest and how I can make this better.
