Trying to figure out if we should move. Husband pays rent. He is stuck on paying 2 rents for 2 months. I will pay for the deposit and application and holding fee. (I’m a full time student)

My husband and I are trying to decide what makes the most financial sense long-term and we're stuck. I know it’s a lot of money and yes he told me to post!

We've lived in our current apartment since 2019. It's a 700 sq ft 1 bed/1 bath and pretty outdated at this point. Our lease ends July 31, 2026.
If we stay at our current complex:
Upgraded 1 bed/1 bath: $1,875 + $100 water/sewer/trash = $1,975/month

Upgraded 2 bed/1 bath: $2,099 + $110 water/sewer/trash = $2,209/month

We found a remodeled apartment in a decent area that's:
2 bed / 2 bath

860 sq ft

$1,605 rent

About $80 water/sewer/trash + around $100 utilities

Around $1,785 total monthly

The issue is the lease starts May 30, so we'd have about 2 months of overlapping rent before our current lease ends. Our current rent is $1,600, so we'd be paying two rents temporarily.
I did some math and the overlap would cost us an extra \~$3,210 upfront (the new apartment rent for those two months), but after that the new place would actually be cheaper monthly than staying here.
We plan on staying wherever we go for 2–3 years while saving for a house.
Would you pay the overlap and move, or stay and avoid paying two rents? What would make the most sense financially?

Applied for an apartment at $1700. Still waiting for approval. Just checked the website and now it’s $1980 LOCATION: CALIFORNIA

We only applied for it because it was $1700. Now it’s showing as $1980. We paid a $500 holding deposit. The agreement says if we get approved and decline they will keep the $500 holding deposit, but THEY changed the price of rent. When they call us to approve us tomorrow what do I say to be able to get that $500 back, because we are NOT going to move in for the new price. Please help. We’re so tight on money.

EDIT: I want to add I did see the place, and met with the apartment leasing manager the day I applied. I met her then went home and applied online to their official website.

Gift for ER from me for helping me

Hi everyone I’ll keep it short. Went to the er last Saturday for alcohol withdrawals. Was the scariest day of my life and that day I decided to quit so I needed to go to the er. The staff were so kind. I can’t put it into words. I already gave them all compliments and submitted their info on the website.

I went to an urgent care right before that and that doctor told me to go to the er right away (they were amazing too) and I wanted to give them both little gifts for the office.

So for the er and urgent care so far I got
- a card
-18 little medical pens that are fun and cute
-30 pack of individually wrapped chocolate chip cookies
-20 mini kind bars individually wrapped
-40 pack of fruit snacks

I also wanted to add a bag of individually wrapped popcorn, or gold fish, and some mini chocolates and starburst

Is that going overboard? I don’t wanna be cringe. I’ve been sober since! Do I just walk it to the front desk?

Hi yall. I went to the urgent care for alcohol withdrawals and the kindest staff welcomed me. The doctor there referred me to the er. I went to the er who took phenomenal care of me. I have been sober since and want to thank both offices with some gifts or snacks and want to know what would be appropriate or appreciated.

I was thinking a mixed snack box and a sealed box of cookies or donuts? Any ideas? Or different types of bagels and cream cheeses? Idk!!!
