First winter in an old house and every room has its own weather
One of the reasons I loved this house was that it still felt old. Original wood floors, big windows, weird little rooms instead of one huge open space. Then winter showed up. The living room stays pretty comfortable. The bedroom gets cold at night. One little room gets surprisingly warm when the sun is out, then loses it almost immediately after sunset. I've started learning which doors to keep closed and which curtains need to be shut before dark. It feels like every room has its own rules.
The house doesn't have ductwork, and I really don't want to tear into walls and ceilings just to make everything the same temperature. That's how I ended up reading about heat a house without ductwork and looking at things like costway mini splits for the rooms we use the most. I still love the quirks of the house. I just didn't realize “character” would include learning five different winter climates under one roof.
