How do you guys handle low-voltage scope on commercial projects?
For those of you working commercial low-voltage projects, I’m curious how you typically see the scope handled when a project includes multiple systems.
Things like:
- Structured cabling
- Fiber
- Wi-Fi/network infrastructure
- Cameras
- Access control
- Business internet
- VoIP
Do GCs typically want one low-voltage contractor to take responsibility for most of that scope, or are you seeing it split between multiple subs?
I run Norvet MSP, and we’ve been working on making our process more contractor-focused — reviewing project documents, identifying the technology/low-voltage scope we can cover, and giving the GC a clearer path from plans to quote to installation.
We recently built out part of our site specifically around that approach:
For the contractors and low-voltage guys here, I’d be interested in what actually matters when you're deciding whether to work with another subcontractor.
Is it bid turnaround? Certifications? Insurance? Project references? Geographic coverage? Ability to cover multiple systems? Communication with the superintendent/PM?
Interested in hearing how you guys handle it.
