I passed 6 Cleps in around 12 weeks of study time in total.
This may seem daunting at first for those who need a lot of college credit quickly, but it honestly was not that bad. I ended up taking Macroeconomics, Intro to Management, Intro to Marketing, U.S. Government, Intro to Psychology, and Educational Psychology. I used basically the same system for all of them, and it worked well since I scored 60+ on every exam.
The method I used was pretty simple. First, I would find a YouTube playlist for the exam (most exams have one). Then I would watch all of the videos in the playlist. I personally didn’t take notes because I felt like it slowed me down and dragged out the process.
Once I finished the videos, I would take a practice test. You can usually find practice tests for most CLEPs on Reddit or online somewhere. After taking the practice test, I would go through every question and identify my weak areas. I used ChatGPT or Gemini (if you don’t have ChatGPT Pro for unlimited uploads) to help explain why I got questions wrong and to break down concepts I didn’t understand.
I would review every missed question multiple times until I fully understood why the correct answer was right and why my answer was wrong. Then I would retake the practice test and aim for at least a 90%.
After that, I would ask ChatGPT to summarize my weak areas and turn them into a prompt for NotebookLM to create an AI podcast focused only on the topics I struggled with. I also watched extra YouTube videos specifically covering the concepts I was weakest in.
Once I felt more comfortable, I would take the Modern States practice test to get the CLEP voucher. I’d recommend scoring at least an 85% there because I personally felt the Modern States questions were easier than the actual CLEP exam.
After that, I would purchase the official CLEP study guide from College Board and take the official practice test. In my experience, if you could score around a 60% raw score on the official practice test, you were probably in good shape to pass the real CLEP exam.
Then I would repeat the same review process again by going question by question through the official practice test and fully understanding every mistake. After that, I usually felt ready to take the exam.
Depending on the subject, this whole process usually took me about a week or less while studying around 2–2.5 hours per day (3 hours max). For example, Macroeconomics took me around 2 weeks, while U.S. Government only took me about 3 days because I found it much easier and I’m planning on going to law school after undergrad.
I hope this helps some of you. Other Reddit posts really helped me while I was studying for CLEPs, so I wanted to share what worked for me in case it helps someone else too.
Other resources I used was freeclep prep they have some pretty good flash cards to help and practice test I heard although I didn’t take any of the practice tests.
If you have any questions I will do my best to respond and help anyone out.
