I’ve been using the Uni Kuru Toga Advance 0.5mm (M5-559) since it first came out, probably around 2017 or 2018, and I honestly can’t go back to any other mechanical pencil now. The lead-rotating mechanism makes every line so crisp and consistent, and it held up amazingly well over time. I’ve used this thing through high school, uni, and now grad school, and it’s still going strong.

I’ve been thinking about getting a spare (either in 0.5 or 0.3 mm) or maybe upgrading to the Uni Kuru Toga Advance Upgrade (M5-1030). For anyone who’s tried both, how does the writing experience compare to the standard advance one? Or would you recommend another model from the Kuru Toga line?

I’ve been using this Pilot V5 for about 6 months and have refilled the cartridge a couple of times. It’s honestly been a really good fountain pen alternative. How long do these pens usually last before the tip starts wearing down? Has anyone actually had to replace one because of that?
