Why don’t more partners retire early?

Maybe I’m naive or bad at math (lawyer, after all), but it strikes me that with a decade or so of partner income, even a non-rainmaker could have their house paid off, kids’ college funded, and ~$10 million in savings, leaving them in a position to comfortably live our their days on dividends. Why don’t more partners retire at 45 or 50?
