Rewilding possibilities in Picos de Europa National Park
Complementary to the previous post I made of the already existing megafauna in the park (north of Spain), in this post I show animals that were present in Holocene-historic times when Pleistocene conditions were already finished, but are locally extinct now. This could be possible rewilding reintroductions in a distant future. Photos: Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber), European bison (Bison bonasus), Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), Cantabrian capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus cantabricus), Spanish ibex (Capra pyrenaica), rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta), Przewalski's horse (Equus ferus przewalskii) and European mink (Mustela lutreola).
Many of these animal have their occidental and southern limits in Asturias, so this should be very interesting ecologically. Hope you liked the posts!
