Current Manhattanite moving East… help!

Current Manhattanite moving East… help!

I am in final round interviews for a job in Glen Cove, and given the opportunity I will take it. Right now, I’m living in the 60s and 3rd, and like the area a lot.

However, it would be almost 3 hours on transit 3 times a week to make it out there… and that’s just not sustainable.

I am thinking of somewhere in this box to move. I AM VERY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS OUTSIDE THE BOX AS LONG AS ITS ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO GLEN COVE BY TRANSIT (LIRR or otherwise).

I can pay between 2,500 and 3,300 a month in rent.

I am mainly concerned about saftey. I am pretty adjustable to living anywhere… so not too picky about specifics.

I have a long term partner and not super into the nightlife scene. I would like to feel safe enough to walk home after dark alone… I am mid 20s white female.

IDEALLY would LOVE a jazz bar culture, I am not too “artsy” and mostly like keeping to myself, but do like a drink or two every so often. I tend to hang out with more “posh“ crowds.

anyone have any thoughts?

EDIT: I don’t need much bigger than a studio, but as mentioned, am a huge fan of the (very) upscale cocktail bar.

AIO or should I just quit?

NOTE: I obviously would not be quitting over this one occurrence, but this describes generally stuff that happens on both sides are my job almost daily.

NOTE 2: part of the issue here is I have almost no emergency savings because I am very young (23) and live paycheck to paycheck in NYC. I need at least ~100k just to afford rent + food, etc.

I have about 3 years of EPA experience.

ANYWAYS.

Two weeks ago the Wife asks me to send a form how to change her voter registration.

I do, and offer to fill it out for her but she says no.

Then she comes back and says “yes fill this out” so I do. She has to pen it and frankly, Docusign would be a nightmare because she’s not very technologically adept (she doesn’t know how to send attachments on email), so I explain this over the phone.

She asks me to bring it to her house. I agree and I also tell her something my Boss (husband) asked me to pass along (what time he’d be home for dinner).

I say “I know you like him to be home by 7pm, unfortunately he has X meeting and will probably be in closer to 7:15pm.”

She then randomly raises her voice at me, almost yelling (I have to take my phone off my ear) saying “he already has a wife, you aren’t his wife, blah blah blah.” This is kind of par for the course so I just nicely end the call and apologize.

important context: she almost always blows up at me when I communicate “for him”

I print out the things and hand them to my Boss to bring home. I put these in an envelope, in his bag, with a stickie note for his wife, and on the outside of his bag, and I tell him I put it in there and remind him as we are walking out.

I ask “would you like me to tell (wife) that you have it and I won’t be bringing it?” (He asks that I don’t come up with him) He says “no I’ll talk to her about it right when I get home, don’t tell her, that sometimes upsets her, just make sure I do it.”

I texted him when he got home “be sure to talk to Wife about registration AND called him to remind him (and did) before he went to sleep.”

This morning at 7am (I’m supposed to work 9-6 but both the Husband and Wife often ask me to come in at 7 or sometimes even 6… no I’m not paid overtime) the Wife calls me.

She says “I’m in an awful panic because you never came to the house with the registration and oh my god” and literally starts sobbing on the phone — she starts saying “I wish I could just be the boss and not have to follow up all the time and oh my God it’s like Im asking for help and no one can help me… etc etc”

I apologize and try to calmly explain Husband had said he would take over the task and I double/triple checked with him. She pretty much tears into me about not closing the loop with her and ”making” Husband do this when he’s already so busy etc etc etc.

I’m literally in bed crying because I feel like I suck at my job and no matter what I do I fail. Literally no matter what I do, my boss or his wife yell at me or ridicule me.

at the same time, I feel stuck. Rent is due, etc and I already have some (light… about ~1.5k) credit card debt.

I have plenty of recruiters that are trying to headhunt me but they are also for husband/wife pairs and I just don't want to be here anymore.

AIO for thinking about quitting over this?
