New Tool: Free Weekends Simulator CEF

New Tool: Free Weekends Simulator CEF

I would like to share that Clear Energy Facts has recently created a new tool to help you evaluate free-weekend electricity plans.

https://clearenergyfacts.com/en/tools/free-weekends-calculator

With this tool, you can compare free-weekend plans against competitive true fixed-rate plans currently available in the market.

This tool complements the free-night calculator that was already available for evaluating free-night plans.

Keep in mind that, in order for these tools to use your real electricity consumption data, you need to upload your Smart Meter Texas report. I recommend using the tool at least one month before you are thinking about switching to one of these types of plans. This gives you some time to adjust your electricity usage toward the free window and monitor whether you would actually save money or not.

In addition, I also improved the analysis in the free-night calculator. The results are now more visually appealing and clearly show how far your free-period usage is below or above the level needed to save money, making it easier to see whether you may be overpaying or actually saving.

Any feedback, questions, or problems you encounter, let me know.

Free Nights Plan Calculator Using your Smart Meter Data

Today, I’m introducing a new tool on Clear Energy Facts. It is called the Free Nights Calculator.

It is currently in beta, but you can now test a Free Nights plan in advance to see if it can beat the fixed-rate plans available in the market.

The tool is free. You do not need to share your email, phone number, or any personal contact information. Simply download your Smart Meter Texas data, upload it to the calculator, and compare a Free Nights plan against fixed-rate plans.

Here are a few situations where this can help:

  • If you are thinking about switching to a time-of-use plan, you can test the plan in advance. You can try shifting your usage into the free window, adjusting your thermostat, or changing other habits to see what it would take for a Free Nights plan to work for you. Then, using your Smart Meter Texas data, you can check day by day whether you are reaching the goal or not.
  • If you are already on a Free Nights plan, you can test it to see if you are really getting the best deal or if a fixed-rate plan would be better.

Please feel free to use it, test it, and mention or comment on anything you would like to add or remove. There are still some items to improve, but I’m rolling it out to the public so people can start testing it and giving feedback.
