I’m doing a decomposition on a staggered grid, where the differential properties are satisfied. However, after interpolating the components back to the cell centres, they no longer satisfy those differential properties.
Is this expected with interpolation? If so, is there a way to interpolate/reconstruct the components while preserving the differential constraints?

Does anyone know of approaches for extending the classical Helmholtz/Hodge decomposition to symmetric positive semidefinite second-order tensor fields while preserving tensor symmetry?
I’m particularly interested in methods other than those based on the elasticity complex.
Any references, papers, keywords, or suggestions would be really appreciated.
