I asked Hugo how he manages it during his live shows so that when he stops singing live, the studio version of his vocals takes over in the songs. For example, like we could hear on Love You Back or Miracle, and also on Car Crash Baby.

You know, when he sings live, you can clearly hear his real-time vocals, and then as soon as he takes a short pause, the studio acapella smoothly comes back in. I’ve always been really curious to know if there’s a VST or something set up beforehand to make that happen.

• “Usually it’s my sound engineer who has their fingers on the respective faders 😃”
• “But I’ve also automated the vocals a bit beforehand 😃”
• “I like when the live lead vocal is slightly quieter during a chorus so it gets thickened up better by the backing vocals 😃”
