Help needed after checking valve clearance
Alright ladies and gentalmen of the ninja 650s, my friend and I just did her 15k valve check and we are having a couple issues.
The main issue being irregular throttle.
Before I get into this im mechanically inclined but dont have much experience working on bikes. So no, i don't know EXACTLY what im doing but ive serviced plenty of engines from a lawn mower to a cummins lol.
After we did the valve clearance service, replaced the air filter with a dna filter and sparkplug, our first ride out she couldnt rev past 6k after first gear.
We got back to the house unplugged the battery and let the bike idle for 10-15 minutes ( i read after the filter change the ecu might need those steps to learn the new conditions ). The next ride out she was having sporadic throttle inputs and holding a high rpm at a stand still.
The bike also said it was over heating but didnt over heat while the bike was relearning. I did move the "lams" ( the throttle blade above the throttle body ) and she spun the radiator fan by hand.
imo neither one of these should matter due to both of them being electronic and will be "recalibrated" on the ignition sequence but I need to provide all of the context.
My first thought was the bike was in a limp mode due to the dna air filter, but after the bike holding a high rpm ( probably 6k or so I didnt look to close i just rolled the throttle back after hearing it revving while standing still) it sounded almost like a REAL bad vacuum leak.
To the best of my knowledge we plugged every back in ( sensors, gas lines, air box/breather hoses throttle bodies and the upper butterfly valve things and the throttle cable was free )
She does have a cel that I bought the adapter for and will be running the codes when it comes in ( should be today may 18th or tomorrow)
This is were yall come in handy, before we tear the bike down to the air box again what do I need to look for?
My initial step was to check and clear the codes once the adapter comes in. Next step was to remove the tank and check the throttle cable for snags and the airbox for disconnected hose or lose fittings. Afterwards we would replace the dna filter with an original filter, tripple checking everything and test it before reassembling this time ( 🤦♂️ yes I know its bad juju to completely reassemble anything before you test it lol it was 2 am and the excitement/anticipated/sleep deprivation got the best of us).
ANY help, direction or advice would be greatly appreciated 🫶
Also...sorry its a lengthy post 😅
