Egg-cellent
I put a lot of love and care into making a garden after accidentally bringing home some monarchs caterpillars a few weeks ago. Two dozen successfully emerged from chrysalises and were released into the world. Today a visitor left a bunch of these
Caterpillar appreciation
This little one was on my colleagues backpack and put back into a paw paw plant. I know it’s not a monarch BUT I thought you would all appreciate this little green angel (zebra swallowtail?)
How long until it emerges?
This little angel has been on my patio for a few days. This morning it turned black. I have never had monarchs on my plants before and Google gave me different time frames. I’m in Florida in case the climate is a determining factor
Bad placement?
I just read here that a chrysalis on the side of the planter may cause problems for the butterfly. Is this bad placement? Is there anything I can do?
An angel
Last week, I brought home milkweed without realizing it had caterpillars. Now I have my first chrysalis
Switching milkweeds
Hello! I bought some swamp milkweed for my garden and came back with some unexpected caterpillars. They have eaten every leaf of the milkweed so I bought them a new one. I bought tuberose milkweed. I didn’t think there would be a problem since it’s milkweed either way but now they won’t eat the new milkweed. They’re just walking all over it with an air of discontent. Should I get swamp milkweed tomorrow? Will they not eat the new kind since they’re used to the swamp milkweed?
