I noticed most AI tools struggle with culturally specific history. So I tested something.

Over the last year, I kept noticing something subtle with mainstream AI tools.

They could usually give a technically “correct” answer about Black history or diaspora culture, but the responses often felt flattened. Context disappeared. Regional differences disappeared. Sometimes even the emotional or historical weight disappeared.

For example:

  • Haitian history explained only through French colonial framing
  • African American traditions described without historical continuity
  • Caribbean cultural practices treated as isolated facts instead of connected systems

The information was not always wrong. It just felt incomplete.

So I started building a small AI project called GriotBot focused on African Diaspora history and culture to see whether more contextual grounding changes the quality of interaction.

Not trying to replace mainstream AI. More testing whether culturally grounded systems produce meaningfully different conversations.

One thing I’ve learned so far:
People do not only want information from AI.
They want recognition inside the information.

Curious whether others have noticed similar gaps when using AI for cultural or historical topics.
