Got an “on call” summons for the week before a planned vacation.

So I got a blue postcard (WA state) saying im on call for the week of August 10th. The problem? I have a vacation a week after on the 20th that I already have PTO coverage on. (As in the boss already approved it)….which is all the PTO I have at the moment. I know I absolutely cannot miss 2 weeks of work as I won’t have the financial coverage on it. I’ve been planning this vacation for a year and it’s non-cancelable. Do I just call up the courthouse and explain this to them? The post card said for one week or one full trial, whichever is longer.

Planning to visit in August for the first time! Need help with itinerary?

My bf and I are planning to visit in August. I was born in Hilo but moved to the mainland when I was a baby and have never been back. So this is a very personal trip and I plan to make it a good one. My trip will only be 4 and a half days (5 nights). We are flying into Kona and traveling to family’s house in Hilo. I called my mom (who hasn’t been there in 23 years) and she said since we will be landing around 12pm in Kona that I should stop for malasadas (don’t know where to go for that) and that I should go to waimea before we make the drive out. Is there anywhere else I should see/ stop at during the drive? Anywhere in Hilo or other notable places I should go? I love to hike so I’m very open to that as an option. My mom insisted I have to go see volcano national park and black sand beach(bc she took me there as a baby a lot). I don’t have a huge budget as of yet but that might change by August idk.

Day 1: land in Kona->grab rental car-> malasada-> Waimea-> drive to Hilo
Day 2: beaches?
Day 3: volcano NP
Day 4: ???
Day 5: ???
Day 6: drive back to Kona->fly home

Going on a 5 day trip in a few months and feeling guilty about leaving my cat with a sitter

I’m scared I’ll stress my baby boy out too much. He’s an only cat and is basically attached to me at the hip. He follows me to every room and sleeps with me every night. Although i’m leaving him at home in his familiar surroundings and that the pet sitter is a friend he’s known since he was a kitten….i know that sometimes their energy can be a bit much for him. He’s used my calm demeanor. How do I get over this guilt? The trip is to see family I haven’t seen in 17 years. I don’t want to stress him out by bringing him on a 5+hour flight and 11 hour travel time just for him to be around strangers in a whole different house and state. But I’m also scared he will be too stressed with me gone for a few days. I’m going to do my best to make sure my friend sticks to his routine and makes sure he’s ok. But ughh
