Question about choosing what is "correct"

TL;DR further down

Hey everyone.

I am not new to competitive gaming and have spend a bunch of time playing things like Street Fighter, Magic and Ygo. So I know that picking a deck for competition differs from the meta your are expecting to encounter at a tournament.

When playing casually with competitive friends, we also like to shuffle around beys and try out new stuff to see what works etc.

But I am having a hard time to understand what are correct picks for a deck on paper when it comes to Beyblade X.

Dor context: My area got hit by a Beyblade hype boom about a month ago. We have solid supply (things like Glory Valkyrie or Rocket Griffon) but are lacking some meta Beys (like Aero Pegasus or Scale Shark). We also mostly play on the Hasbro Stadium with a few TT Stadiums on their way.

When I play against a friend with a relativly solid deck (Shark Edge 1-50L, Glory Valkyrie LF, Wizard Rod 1-60H), I feel very confident with this super defensive teams of Wizard Rod 1-60H, Clock Mirage 7-55FB and Ring Aether 7-60LR.

I swapped in Clock Mirage after I realized I am lacking tools to best Wizard Rod aside from winning the coin flip of the mirror match. An luckily Ring Aether is not half bad at knocking Beys into pockets.

But when I do the math, this seems super unfavorable since Clock and Rod mostly will only be able to score 1 point. It worked against my friend in a bunch of sets (probably because I am able to drop launch pretty reliably and avoid his two attack Beys). But if I'd have to think a step ahead, I am unsure if this deck would work going into a tournament in my area and I am having a hard time thinking about what to do in the Rod matchup (Rod 1-60H is the one of the Meta Beys that is easy to come by in my Area). In MTG and YGO I was able to just "ignore" certain bad matchups or would need to get "lucky". Do people in Beyblade X do the same?

TL;DR: How far in advance do you plan your deck? Do you sometimes ignore that you have no real answer to a certain matchup?

Bonus: Other Beyblades on my bench that I could substitute in for Clock Mirage are Cobalt Dragoon 5-70E (which should be a solid counter to Rod, but I am struggeling with the String Launcher and launching for left spin - strategy wise), Phoenix Wing 3-60T, Glory Valkyrie R.
