ST | Male | 23 | 8/8/7 | Tier 1 Grad | 1.5 years Big 4 Work Ex

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on whether preparing for CAT makes sense given my profile.

My profile:
ST, Male, 23
8/8/7 academics
Graduated from a Tier 1 college
1.5 years of work experience at a Big 4

I left my job earlier this year to prepare for competitive exams. While I genuinely want to pursue an MBA, my parents strongly feel I should focus on government or regulatory body exams instead.

Coming from a small town, spending ₹20–30 lakhs on an MBA isn’t viewed very positively. Their concern is that placements are never guaranteed, and even if you do get placed, there’s no real job security afterward. Hearing this repeatedly has made me question whether the investment is actually worth it.

Because of that, I’m hesitant to take on such a huge financial commitment unless it’s for a college like FMS, where the ROI is exceptional. But getting into FMS is, of course, highly competitive.

I’d really appreciate an objective assessment of whether pursuing CAT is a sensible choice in my situation, and whether my profile gives me a realistic shot at colleges where the ROI would justify the investment.

Would appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
