Budget trip to Vail from Boston - am I crazy?
I’m trying to plan the cheapest possible trip from Boston to snowboard at Vail (or some Epic Pass mountain in that area) this season, and I’m looking for advice from people who have done something similar.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Fly from Boston on Friday after work.
- Bring my own snowboard and gear.
- Rent a car at the airport.
- Sleep in the rental car instead of paying for a hotel.
- Shower at Planet Fitness.
- Buy groceries instead of eating at restaurants.
- Ride Saturday and Sunday.
- Fly back on Monday.
I just want to maximize time on the mountain while spending as little money as possible.
A few questions:
- Is sleeping in the rental car realistic around Vail, Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon, etc.? Are there places where people actually do this without getting kicked out?
- Are there better nearby towns to stay in (even if it’s still sleeping in the car)?
- Any other budget hacks you’ve learned for skiing/riding Colorado?
Anything helps. Thanks!
