GTK File Picker Issues in Librewolf/Firefox

I know there are a few other posts here about this issue but I have read the readme for librewolf/firefox and dbus regarding pledge/unveil and done the recommended steps for getting ~/Downloads to be visible as well as adding the recommended lines to my .xsession regarding dbus. Neither has made it so that I can download or upload files

/Downloads and /tmp are accessible if I go to them via file:///home/user/Downloads or /tmp but most websites require the gtk file picker to access files and nothing is visible but 'recent'.

Is there something I'm missing? I could add another directory to /etc/librewolf/unveil.main set to rwc the way Downloads is but the issue doesn't seem to be access, it's specifically the GTK picker seeing the directories.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Spoke too soon. For those with a similar problem see the following

  1. Perform the actions in both the /usr/local/share/doc/librewolf and dbus readmes
  2. download xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
  3. In about:config set the following ui.allow_platform_file_picker = false and widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal.file-picker = 2

That should allow you to actually see everything!

9p implementations

In an effort to provide a distraction from the sheer number of posts on here that seem to just be people pointing LLM's at software and asking them to port them to plan9 C I would like to pick the community's brain about 9p.

I'm starting a masters program soon and looking for some good independent research ideas and I've been noodling with playing with implementations of 9p that would, ideally, increase the protocols speed and performance. At this stage I'm looking at seeing if 9p and QUIC could be integrated.

What do you guys think about 9p? What's the good, what's the bad, what's comfy, what's not, etc.

For me personally, I think the idea of a single human understandable interface to an entire network of computers is very appealing. File operations are easy to understand and a very powerful abstraction as well as allowing for a great deal of flexibility in how users might want to integrate machines. Modern computing is a mess of abstractions on top of abstractions and the idea that a distributed system can be built on something that closely tracks fundamental computing concepts is appealing.
