Anyone worked as a physio in the British Army?
Sport and exercise science undergrad at Loughborough University here, planning a pre-reg physio MSc after I graduate and looking into the Army route…
Being upfront, what attracts me is the potential to travel + the possibility of saving a chunk of my salary.
- What is the job actually like - is the much soldiery outside of clinical work?
- The possibility of going overseas, do you enjoy it?
- Is living on base enjoyable + can I realistically save a large portion of my salary?
- progression in the army / outside the army?
Honest takes are welcome, good or bad.
Pre reg MSc advice - Sports Science student at Loughborough University
I've got two years left on a BSc Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough. Kinesiology is easily the area I enjoy the most + applying the manual therapy / pre-hab side of things alongside my sprinting.
At the moment I'm thinking a pre-reg MSc in physiotherapy is the route in, but I'd rather sanity-check that now than in two years' time. So a few things I'd like some honest input on:
Is the MSc actually the best way in from a sport science background?
If it is, does anyone have strong thoughts on where/not? I've been comparing the Welsh offer where tuition is paid if you commit to working in Wales afterwards vs the NHS grant route in England. Curious whether that Wales commitment ends up feeling restrictive or whether it's honestly fine?
What's worth doing alongside the degree? I've organised some one-day NHS placements + shadowing at the uni clinic. But, what actually counted for people when they came to apply.
Any advice appreciated!!
Thanks
