Discitis and osteomyelitis

Had two microdiscectomys, the second a result of a recurrent protrusion. Following the second I was vomiting, couldn’t walk or stand, spasming. They took an mri at hospital and did a blood test to check my inflammation levels (after pumping me full of steroids). Long story short, my neurosurgeon wasn’t worried about the fluid on my spine and sent me home, 4 weeks later when I go back to hospital to do inpatient rehab they tell me I have discitis and osteomyelitis and my disc is all but done due to the infection being left to run rampant. My current situation is wait to see if the vertebrae fuse or get a spinal fusion. Anyone had a similar situation with auto disc fusion and any outcomes? Currently in rehab after a month long stay in hospital, very drugged up but noticing more severe nerve pain than pre surgery. Assuming a fusion will be needed but they can’t do anything until the infections gone. Basically interested in anyone’s stories with any of the above: auto fusion, disicitis, osteomyelitis, surgical spinal fusion etc

Discitis and osteomyelitis

Anyone in here caught discitis and/or osteomyelitis as a results of a microdiscectomy? The actual bacteria causing these are MRSA. Would be interested in hearing recovery stories and what rehab looked like. Currently doing it pretty rough.

On a lighter note, for anyone reading this and feeling dissuaded, the likelihood of getting this is close to 0 and the surgery actually fixed my sciatica; besides the infection degenerating my disc I would’ve been extremely happy with the outcome.

Infection after revision surgery

I’ve posted a couple times about my recovery but 24 hours after my revision surgery I was in emergency vomiting, spasming, major migraine, unable to walk. They did a contrast mri and took bloods but seemingly missed the infection. 4 and a half weeks later I’m back in hospital and after tests have found an infection.
Steroids have seemingly been masking it (if that makes sense, I’d have thought it’d be making it worse but who knows?) but when going off them I would only get out of bed every second day to go to the bathroom which would see me screaming in agony until I laid back down to spasm for the next 20-30 minutes.
Just interested in any similar stories and how long it took you to recover, just got two iv bags down and am optimistic but the past 7 weeks have been anything but so would love some reassurance.

Muscle spasm relief?

Had a revision microdiscectomy exactly 3 weeks after my first. Recovery was a breeze bar the return of my sciatica symptoms after the initial op.
However, following my revision surgery I was taken by ambulance and spent the next three days in hospital due to back spasms, migraines, vomiting, and just generally feeling like complete shit.
In the 4 days since being home, I’ve struggled with more of the same, all of which is set off by an initial spasm.
I’ve been given Norflex for spasm relief and felt a lot looser, but when trying to get up had another spasm episode and am now scared to move.
Interested in anything that’s worked for others. I’ve been using heat packs religiously, keeping up to date with medication, staying hydrated, and abiding by all other dot points that come up on Google (even had a Bowen therapy massage last night) but nothing seems to be making a meaningful difference.

Having a revision md 3 weeks after the initial op. Contrast mri showed recurrent protrusion with potential disc fragments on nerve, though could be scar tissue. Wondering what recovery was like versus the initial operation for anyone else? Besides nerve symptoms pretty much reverting to what they were pre op, the recovery from the incision wasn’t too bad but have heard a second surgery so close isn’t as forgiving.
