For those of you who are currently doing a Bachelor's at EPFL, or who still remember those days 😜:

What kind of laptop specs would you recommend? Is a fairly powerful laptop really necessary?

Could you share your experience and any advice to help us make the right choice?

I'm also planning to buy a tablet.

If you already have a tablet, is a powerful laptop still essential? (Obviously, I'm not talking about a gaming laptop 😅, just a laptop that's well suited to EPFL's needs.)

How are you equipped yourselves?

Hello everyone,

I will be starting my studies in Lausanne in September 2026 and I have been allocated a FMEL room at the Falaise residence near CHUV.

However, I am having some difficulty understanding the subletting rules imposed by FMEL. My room will be vacant from July 1st to August 15th, and I have noticed that many people are looking for accommodation during that period. From what I understand, FMEL does not allow sublets of less than three months.

That being said, I regularly see short-term sublet advertisements posted by students, which makes me wonder what is actually permitted in practice.

For those of you who have experience with FMEL or are familiar with its policies, could you clarify what the rules are and what is realistically possible in this situation?
