This post might be a little long on the announcement side but the Mod Team wanted to take the time to explain and share with the community their stance and reasoning as to how we'll be proceeding forward when it comes to GenAI content and topics.

We've notice that posts around GenAI seem to be recurring on the sub. The team thinks it's important to address this as it's clear it's a topic that the community cares about.

The Mod Team is of the same mind that Generative AI has no place in a creative game such as My Leisure Time.

That being said, we think it's important to clarify a few couple of things. The first being the fact that like many games, ads for My Leisure Time aren't handled nor created by them, it's highly likely a third party's job and they are the ones pushing the use of GenAI.

There is also the fact that very big corporations are still pushing for GenAI use in domains that do not or see very little benefits from adopting it, corporations that currently are major players in lots of sectors, including gaming. In China, Tencent — who's the equivalent of the App or Play store — is one of those and My Leisure Time is present on their store.

For the non-initiated, Tencent has a very dubious reputation to say the least. If you've played any of the games under the Hoyoverse banner (Genshin being the flagship, but you perhaps know of Honkai Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd or Zenless Zone Zero/ZZZ, if only in passing), you perhaps have heard of them. For what it's worth, games on stores have to pay a percentage of the purchases made via said stores. The current rate is 30% of any purchase made going to stores, leaving game studios with 70% — for the App and Play stores at the very least. If you were a Genshin player a few years ago, you're perhaps aware that Genshin wasn't available on the Tencent store over a disagreement about said rate: Tencent wanted a cut of minimum 50% (and their general rates vary between 50% to 70%) and MiHoyo/Hoyoverse was dead set on 30% only. Tencent caved. Just FYI, Tencent has had a weird beef with Genshin for as long as the game has been around but that isn't here nor there.

Depending on the size of the studio behind a game, 30% can be a lot in the sense that it's still difficult for them to function correctly and generate decent or sustainable profit — a pack you pay 4.99 will see 1.49 going to the store and 3.50 effectively going to the game and the pricier the pack, the higher the share for the store: on say the 9.99 monthly card, 2.99 go to the App/Play store — and where any dent in said profit could lead to delay in QOL or major updates that will in turn have a domino effect until they reach End Of Service. With how Tencent is a major player in the gaming industry in China and on the mobile market in particular, it's not really surprising that they're part of the feeding loop, much like Google and co, of the GenAI bubble. There isn't much to be done, on a concrete level, unless you stop paying and playing entirely — both in general or this game in particular.

I cannot speak on how widespread or accepted GenAi is in China but I know how fast it being adopted by people depends on a lot of factors: culture, age, education and in particular education about technologies, affinity with creative hobbies and jobs etc The willingness of certain governments to pass laws surrounding GenAI also plays a key role: China has laws to protect individuals and give a frame for GenAI. How sufficient they are, I don't know. As far as I'm aware, only the European Union and South Korea have been working on a comprehensive framework for GenAI and AI in general.

Which may explains why studios that aren't holders of massive AAA titles would rely heavily — sometimes to the detriment of their f2p playerbase — on advertising (both within and outside their game) and would overlook or turn a blind eye to GenAI in ads relative to their games because ads oftentimes mean the chance of attracting more players and generating more money (since games are essentially lending space inside their game for others to advertize).

And for those of you who may have started going towards the TW and CN servers, you probably have noticed the use of AI amongst players for their designs when sharing them on Instagram or RedNote. It tends to be purely for small cosmetic and practical purposes: adding a background, giving a more realistic texture to the overall finish, adding lighting and shadows etc. In addition, they also more often than not have the unedited design be part of the reel/slideshow/video: there’s objectively less chances for people to mistake the edit to be the real deal when the normal, unedited, in-game version of the design exists right next to its ai-enhanced counterpart.

However, just because part of the OG playerbase isn't adverse against GenAI and the normalization of it doesn't mean we should stop caring.

As such, the Mod Team's stance is clear: no AI usage will be tolerated on the sub, whether it be to try and design your own suite, to modify existing game assets for demonstrative purposes or for beautifying your designs in showcase posts. A rule has been added to this effect and will from now on be enforced. Keep in mind that this rule also applies to designs from CN or TW creators should you want and have their express permission to share them on the sub. The sole exception resides in anything present in official posts: the Mod Team has no say in what may get picked to showcase useful tips and other game features by the game's team and should a design or tutorial contain or be edited with a GenAI tool — especially when it comes to them picking inspiration posts from players — there's functionally nothing we can do to prevent it. As Mods, we are still bound to our duty to keep you informed and will do so to the best of our abilities.

However, the rule is not retroactive for two reasons: the Mod Team has a lot of work to tackle and we'd like our efforts turned towards something productive and tracking down posts that might have GenAI designs or alterations falls quite low on that scale compared to making the sub's wiki available to everyone or starting events on the sub for example. The other reason is that there's a possible chance that posts with obvious GenAI designs or ads content may be attached to conversations that were had at the time by the community, which the team used to gauge and set the current frame of this new rule. It would be conflicting to set a rule and erase any trace of the base for said rule in the Mod Team's opinion.

If you have a photo with edited backgrounds that are not from AI, please specify, in the post title or body, that they were made by you to avoid removal.

This post is made in regard to the influx of posts concerning the red dot notification on the shop not going away.

It is a glitch, one that has happened before - likely due to an error of some kind in the code - which keeps the dot on display even if you have effectively checked every item in the shop.

It is affecting everyone and nothing can be done on the player's side to remove it. What you can do is, if you have the time and capacity to remain polite, send a bug report either via the Customer Service Center in game or via the bug report channel on Discord.

There is no way of telling how they'll fix the problem - last time the issue appeared it was close to a new update and so they used the down time from the maintenance of the server to fix it. This time the issue is manifesting after the maintenance, which makes it hard to guess whether or not said fix will require temporary down time of the server.

With all this being said, the dev team is likely aware and working on solving this issue, we're asking you to be patient about it.

As a side note the Mod Team would also appreciate if before posting you checked whether or not your question has been answered, either by scrolling down a few posts or by browsing the Question and/or Sub Annoucement flairs: chances are if something is happening, someone posted about it and if it's affecting enough players, the Mod Team will likely make a post about it.

We'd also like to thank the players who reply in timely fashion with accurate information whenever possible.

I'm a new mod on a sub and frankly I'm a bit stumped here.

The automod was given a rule to help remove posts and redirect users toward a weekly megathread.

The issue lies in the fact that even after removing a word from the list of words, adding modifiers and then rewriting the rule, automod keeps preventing users from posting.

Currently, no rule is saved in the automod config and it's still impossible to post.

The word being that was removed and that keeps being flagged is "design"

Below is the last version of the rule before it was deleted to test out whether or it the word design would still get flagged.
