My Year of Rest and Relaxation
I don't understand the hate for this book; it's cray cray BUT i found it funny in a bleak, sarcastic way. I appreciate the bravery of having a privileged, vapid, immature woman as a main character. It wasn't the easiest read kasi frustrating talaga si MC, and how her inner thoughts go, but the negative thoughts are quite relatable, ung contempt for everything and eveyone - like lahat may agenda sayo. And it's an interesting take on depression. She has everything and yet she can't find meaning because of it. The ending was a surprise, I thought there would be grave consequences dun sa pinag gagawa ni MC to achieve her entire year of sleep, but she got off easy. Still, the book highlights how beauty privilege overshadows character development, that depression ravages anyone regardless of social standing, and how intrusive thoughts should stay as thoughts lol.
