Lafayette & Walnut Creek Parking Meter Scams
When you drive into a parking lot and take a ticket, then pay at a machine or the exit gate, you pay for how long you parked there - that makes sense. So, why should a modern internet connected parking meter with sensors in it be any different? The meter knows how long you are using the space. It is time to get rid of these scam parking meters that make you estimate how long you will be using the space! Both Lafayette & Walnut Creek have these new internet app based parking meters with sensors in them and yet they are still fining users exorbitant penalty fees immediately for going a few minutes over time. It's unnecessary and it's an obvious scam. When I pay on the app, all my payment information is there, so just charge me $3 for another hour, not $60 because I underestimated my usage. Maddening.
And yeah, okay, I get it. Meters are normally used in central business district areas, where we don't want people parking all day long and we want spaces available for commerce. But, again, the sensors can tell if a car is sitting there all day or if the car left a few minutes after expiration. Walnut Creek has meters everywhere, even in places that never had meters before and have no foot traffic. More Maddening. Rant complete.
