After the Market rout yesterday, Have to agree that this man made a correct and intelligent prediction.
Let's just address the obvious elephant in the room: he is not a 'pappu' anymore.
For years, IT cells and WhatsApp forwards turned him into an easy punchline so nobody had to take his actual arguments seriously. But whatever your politics, yesterday’s brutal bloodbath with ₹8 to 9 lakh crore wiped out in hours proved his macro warning wasn't political noise. It was dead on.
A few blunt realities from yesterday's crash:
The "India is Decoupled" bubble just burst: We have been told for months that India is completely insulated from the rest of the world. It is nonsense. We import around 85% of our crude. Brent crosses $100, the rupee takes a beating, logistics and raw material costs spike, and company margins get crushed. We do not exist in a vacuum.
The shock absorbers failed: SIPs and domestic institutional money did their best to hold the fort, but when foreign funds decided to mass dump large cap banking and financials, the domestic bids could not take the hit. That cushion is not invincible.
Valuation delusion: Our markets have been priced for perfection. When the US 10 year Treasury yield is sitting above 5%, foreign institutional money will not stick around out of charity for the "India story" while taking currency hits. They will pack up and take guaranteed dollar yields.
Retail gets left holding the bag: The hype merchants and finfluencers kept screaming that dips are only meant for buying, while everyday retail folks watching their small and mid caps bleed out are the ones actually paying the tuition fee.
You do not have to vote for the guy, but dismissing structural warnings about our macro exposure as mindless fear mongering is getting harder to defend by the day. He read the room on this one.
TLDR: The caricatures do not work when the macro reality catches up. Yesterday was not a freak glitch, but the exact external shockwave and failure of domestic shock absorbers he warned about right here.
