Hi everyone,

I’m booked in for a body lift/tummy tuck following significant weight loss. I’m expecting to need approximately 4 weeks off work to recover.

I work as a civil servant and I’m wondering how people have handled this with their employer. Am I entitled to take sick leave for this type of surgery, and what information would I need to provide to my employer/HR?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has had similar surgery while working in the Civil Service/HSE or another public-sector role.

I’d prefer not to go into the personal details of the surgery with my employer if I don’t have to.
