My perfect plan sucked
This entire post is a thick spoiler for the base game and a thin spoiler for the DLC
I just finished the base game last week. It was fantastic, and afterwards my friend and I decided to play through the DLC parallel to each other, sharing in the discovery together.
After exploring the stranger for a while and finding a map/viewing room from the dam, I discovered that the ship was quickly moving outside the range of the sun's supernova.
Eureka! 🤓☝️
I noticed earlier that, while on the stranger, the loop didn't end with a bright and fiery death like it normally did. It just sort of ended, and my memories were sent back to the Ash Twin project for recycling.
So, if I wasn't dying to the sun's boom, the only thing holding me back was that pesky Nomai Statue that triggered every supernova.
Screw that, I thought, letting my buddy know that I was on to something that I believed to be absolutely foolproof. I told him to just trust me, and follow what I do for the next loop.
We nap for ~8 minutes. Head to the Ash Twin, teleport into the planet's core and abduct the warp core thats been holding us hostage. I didn't believe it mattered what we actually did with the core, but we took it with us to the stranger anyway. By now, my buddy has caught on. He's pretty smart. But neither of us expected to get to the stranger and be locked out from entering. I can smell the bullshit.
But its all good. We entered from the sun-facing side, which means there's an elevator here that can take us up to the viewing room from earlier. Perfect - once I'm there I double check that we are still set to be out of the supernova range. All thats left is to wait it out and see what happens.
I'm giggling and kicking my feet, I'm so excited. We're finally gonna end the loop! No more 22 minute restriction from exploring this gigantic place. What a clever way to change things up in the DLC.
Boom! The sun explodes, and I watch the radiation expands until it just sorta stops. I was sure that my plan had worked. And then, I stepped in the bullshit.
After a minute of nothing happening, just a stranger floating at the end of the universe, the screen fades to black and I read: "Now beyond the reach of the supernova. You find yourself the only inhabitant of an abandoned world. Surely something here must be edible?" And then: "🟨 : Wake up"
There were so many plants on that ship that I could have eaten. Clean water. Shelter. We could have had it all, but we got nothing. Not even an achievement.
My friend has given up on me, citing my plans as "stupid" and "dumb". I told my therapist about this yesterday and he spat on my face.
Anyway has anyone else tried this?
