freshman move in

some misc dorm qs.

is dorm in just a free for all? i mean it’s obvi not but i have received very little info re: move in and the first few days on campus before classes begin.

are there events for freshman or required programming that week before classes?

how do packages work that week with thousands of students sending all their shit to campus?

what is generally the distribution of how people bring their stuff for move in (ie bring w vs shop there vs order for delivery) for toiletries, clothing, dorm furniture, decor etc?

my parental units think i need a computer desktop monitor (ik this isn’t the right technical term lol) for my room. i’m an IA major and i feel this is … unnecessary. am i wrong?

thank u again to the good people of r/gwu for answering my college qs 🙏🙌

Misc. Freshman Q’s

  1. I’m an IA major so starting on my language early. Perhaps a stupid q, but are there any recommended languages or advice? I’ll be taking for the next three years, so any insight to be decision would be appreciated
  2. Are candle warmers or electric kettles allowed? They are prohibited item adjacent (ie it’s a candle but I’m not lighting a fire) so worth checking
  3. I’m currently assigned Mitchell Hall. I wanted a single & I don’t mind communal bathroom (at least I don’t think lol). Is there info about how extensive the renovations were? I’m finding info about the common areas but not about the individual rooms. And/or any advice/info about Mitchell in general!
  4. I’m moving from West Coast and have zero cold weather clothing. Is the norm to get there or shop here and bring with? Or do a clothing swap during Thanksgiving break? Again, perhaps a stupid q but I am unfamiliar with having…. seasons lmao

Thanks in advance! I’m the first one in my family to go to college so I don’t have anyone to ask all these questions to & any advice would be amazing
