What is happening in Rome?

Is October still considered tourist season? I’ve been coming for 17 years and I’ve never in my life seen it as insane as it is now. I’m glad for the city but at the same time the city center feels like Disneyland. Even Trastevere is a zoo! Nearly cried trying to find a place to eat when that is usually fairly simple.

Just wondering from the locals, I know tourism has boomed, but this just feels like next level even from last year to this year.

In the future I plan to visit more local neighborhoods, but will be practicing Italian to communicate. This was a quick trip so I didn’t plan much, which again used to be pretty simple but today felt like a different world.
