What to know before getting my first credit card

Basically the title. I’m moving out from my parents house and living on my own for the first time, something that other women in my community never ever do. I’m worried that there are things that I haven’t thought about before because no one taught me, so is there any advice or warning you could offer for getting and having a credit card?

Moving to Davis from the East Coast

I’m starting a graduate program in September and I currently live in NYC. Does anyone have experience moving (permanently, not for 9 months or so) across the country?

My current plan is to fly out with 2-3 checked bags each for me and my travel companion and just work with whatever I can fit into them, but that means starting from scratch with furniture, appliances, etc. Does anyone know anything about the process of shipping stuff from coast to coast, like pricing? It wouldn’t be a full studio since I currently live at home and am moving alone.

Also, driving across the country ourselves is unfortunately not an option.

Starting a graduate program after being out of uni for years

Does anyone have any experience they can share about what it was like to start a PhD program after having a 5+ year break since attending undergrad? Is it hard to get back into the course material? Do you recommend reviewing/relearning the content from undergrad before starting?

It will be a social psychology program, if that context makes a difference.
