One Rhino Command, Endless Ring Designs — NetworkSrf Workflow

I wanted to share a Rhino technique I use a lot in jewelry design.

In this tutorial, I use Surface from Network of Curves / NetworkSrf to create very different ring forms from the same basic approach — from a simple ring to a much more organic design.

The idea is not to copy one specific model, but to understand the technique and reuse it in your own designs.

Rhinoceros or Matrix gold?!

I can work with both Rhino and MatrixGold, but when I’m working on complex models with a lot of details, I honestly don’t feel like I need MatrixGold. I mostly use MatrixGold for things like automatic gem setting on simpler shapes.

My opinion might be a little unpopular in my work environment, but I feel like MatrixGold is mainly useful for people who work with more standard/simple jewelry forms. Sometimes I think the marketing around it makes people feel like they need to spend a lot of money on MatrixGold, even when Rhino alone can handle most of the work.

That’s just my experience, though, and I’m curious what other jewelry CAD designers think.

How many years have you been working in jewelry CAD, and do you prefer Rhino, MatrixGold, or both?

Create Organic Jewelry in Rhino + Blender — No Blender Experience Needed

I wanted to share a simple workflow I use for creating more organic jewelry forms.

The basic shape is created in Rhino, then I use just a few simple tools in Blender to add the organic detail. The idea is specifically for Rhino users who have little or no experience with Blender or sculpting software.

You don’t need to learn the whole Blender workflow — just a few useful tools can make a big difference.

A simple Infinity Ring workflow in Rhino 3D — full modeling process
