Passed!
I passed the series 66 on August 7th first try. It was the third test after L&H and SIE. I now have the series 7 until I’m done, and I’ve got all 3 first try so far so I’m hopeful I can do the 7 in one. I was doomscrolling this thread for weeks until my exam so thought I’d share my thoughts. I used STC for the SIE and series 66 and think it worked well. The practice exams were definitely harder and worded trickier than the real exam but they helped me get prepared. The topics I remember on my exam were:
Fundamental analysis
Technical analysis
A lot about exempt securities and exempt transactions
2-3 options questions
A lot on advertising and the rules within states
ADV form
A couple ratios or formulas to recognize like quick ratio, but only math was PV and FV
I spent a ton of time watching lectures from Ken and guruthey are the absolute goats. Both have super valuable lectures if there’s anything to take away it’s watch these guys on YouTube. Literally just as important as reading the book. They explain in plain English and really helps you connect the dots super well.
Ken’s brutal exams is going to be the best thing to study imo. They are the closest thing to the actual exam, and the explanations are huge. He also has mini lectures on smaller topics to hammer down, along with his cheat sheet video was super super helpful.
I was super worried when I was scoring high 60s on the STC exams, and I ended up getting my scores to mid 70s before I scheduled it. My highest practice exam score was a 79 but most of them were 65-73. I had a ton of 50/50 questions on the test of where to register and what’s exempt and whatnot. Other than that I was pretty confident on most of the exam. It took me until the last 5 minutes before I submitted, so I definitely took my time.
If I was giving anyone advice on how to succeed in this, I’d say read the book and do all chapter quizzes, THEN supplement with YouTube from both of the guys, and continue doing practice tests and reviewing weak areas. If you are scoring 60s and 70s on the STC exams don’t stress too much because you aren’t too far off. Continue to work on weak chapters and any topics that aren’t super clear, but that doesn’t mean you are going to fail because the questions are trickier through STC.
